Aviation workers in the country will down tools from midnight today in compliance with the call for an industrial action by the Nigeria Labour Congress.
The strike is to press the government for the N30,000 minimum wage request.
The Federal Government has proposed N24,000 minimum wage, but the governors say they can pay only N22,500
National President of the National Union of Air Transport Employers (NUATE) Ben Nnabue in a statement last night said all flights operating into and out of Nigerian airports would be affected by this industrial action.
He said, “As you are all aware, the NLC have jointly declared an indefinite national strike commencing from November 6, 2018 over the vexed issue of government unwillingness to implement the report of the tripartite committee on minimum wage.
“In complying with the directive of the NLC Centres, therefore, we issue this notice to all workers in the aviation sector to withdraw all services from 00:00hrs of November 6, 2018.
“The general public, especially the international traveling public, are equally notified to avoid, or cancel plans to utilize aviation services within the period of the strike.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) yesterday said there was enough supply of products.
NNPC’s spokesperson, Ndu Ughamadu, stated this on Sunday, in an chat with Premium Times.
Ughamadu said “motorists and other consumers of petroleum products are assured of adequate stock to meet their energy needs.”
