The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the arraignment of 50-year-old Umar Garba, for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl.
The Command’s spokesman, DSP Meru Mallen made this known to journalists at the weekend in Gombe.
He said the suspect was earlier arrested by the Command before his arraignment in court.
“Umar Garba was arrested for allegedly raping an 18-year-old by turning her into a sex slave. This contravenes her human rights as well the law against child labour,” Mellen said.
The victim, according to the police spokesman, was on her way to school before she was allegedly lured into the illicit act by Garba.
“The suspected rapist had volunteered useful information that he influenced his victim with little sum of money before carrying out his act,” DSP Mellen added.
He however acknowledged that only the court can convict the suspect if he is found guilty of committing the nefarious act.
The police, Mellen maintained, will not relent in its genuine task of neutralising criminals in the state to ensure a crime-free society.
