Not only workers, but also food and newspaper vendors joined the nationwide strike at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

It was the first day of the strike called by the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, to press for minimum wage above the present N18,000.

The Labour unions are demanding the minimum wage be set at N65,000.

Here are the tell-tale signs of the impact of the strike on Day One.

Even newspaper vendors refused to come to work

Empty stands of fruit, food sellers: everywhere is desolate
