Ahead of today’s rescheduled All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election in Kogi State, the Kogi West APC Stakeholders has raised the alarm over alleged plans to divert Primary Election Materials to Kogi Govt. House.

According to a statement signed by Hon. Dayo Aiyeku on Wednesday, the Kogi West APC Stakeholders have alleged that the plans are being executed in connivance with some members of the Kogi APC Primary elections Committee.

They called for a level playing ground for all aspirants towards achieving transparent and credible primaries that will be acceptable by all members of the party.

The statement reads in part “It is vital to point out that the task you are all saddled with is a call to duty prompted by the confidence reposed in you by the party leadership which we hope will be justified.

Your core assignment is to ensure free, fair, transparent and credible primaries in line with the party’s ideals.

“Providing a level playing ground for all cleared aspirants is of importance to ensure the outcome is acceptable to eventual losers in the primaries.

“Inducements will definitely be dangled before you all by those bent on placing their personal interests above that of the party and the people.

“We need not emphasize the negative impact on the electoral fortunes of our great party if you permit to be compromised. We requested for persons of integrity and impeccable character from the national leadership of the party and we want to believe the composition of your committee is a response to the request.

“From the moment you all leave the National Secretariat of the party, be assured that all eyes are on you as what is at stake is for the wishes of the majority to prevail in tandem with democratic principles.

“You must all resist the temptation to be tools of fraud by ensuring all sensitive primary elections materials are safe and out of the reach of aspiring political ‘godfathers’ misappropriating state resources to foist their selfish egocentric agenda on the people.

“We pray for divine grace, guidance, wisdom and protection for successful and rancour-free primaries in Kogi State.”

Reacting, Chief Press Secretary to the Kogi State Governor, Mrs Petra Onyegbule debunked the allegations, saying the allegation is strange and unfounded.

According to her; “That is strange to me. If materials are going to be coming to government house, who would it be distributed to?

“Because I do know that all political appointees who are leaders of their various local governments have already left. So it is very strange and unfounded allegation.”
