The Kaduna Police Command has arrested about 27 suspects, alleged to have committed various criminal offences within the last two weeks.
The suspects are said to have been involved in criminal offences such criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, rape and being in possession of firearms, among others crimes.
Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, CP Ahmad Abdurrahman, while briefing newsmen on Thursday in Kaduna, also revealed that the suspects arrested in respect of Kasuwan Magani and Kaduna disturbances have been arraigned in court.
He explained that those arrested are “two (2) suspects for Criminal conspiracy, Armed Robbery, Rape and being in possession of firearms; three (3) suspects for Criminal Conspiracy, Kidnapping and Culpable Homicide and two (2) suspects for criminal Conspiracy and Attempt to commit an offence to-wit kidnapping.
“Others are six (6) suspects in connection with Criminal Conspiracy, Armed Robbery and being in possession of Dangerous Weapons; eight (8) suspects for Criminal Conspiracy and Abduction; five (5) suspects for Criminal Conspiracy, Membership of Unlawful Society, Shop Breaking and Theft, Armed Robbery and Being in possession of Dangerous Weapons; and one (1) suspect for Being in Possession of substances suspected to be Indian Hemp.”
The commissioner of police said exhibits recovered during the course of investigation by the police included “1 Locally made Pistol, 1 Short Dane Gun, 1 single barrel Gun and 4 live Cartridges.
“Others are 1 Toyota Siena with Reg.No: DKA 830 AU, 2 Fabricated Wooden Pistols, 7 Machetes, 2 Knives, 1 torch light, 1 Cap and 20 bags of substance suspected to be Indian Hemp.”
He explained that the suspects who are in police custody, have made useful statements which are helping investigations.
“They will all be charged to court on completion of investigation. I wish to thank the good people of Kaduna state for their support to the Police and other security agencies during this trying period and to appeal for strict compliance during the remaining curfew period.
“On this note, I want to reassure members of the public that the Police in this command will not relent on its efforts in fighting all forms of crime and criminality.
“I want to appeal to members of the public to continue to provide the police with useful information regarding activities of persons who are likely to constitute danger to the society, so as to prevent them from carrying out their heinous acts,” he explained.
He explained that following the recent security challenges in Kaduna metropolis and its environs which resulted in loss of lives and destruction of properties, the Kaduna Police Command, alongside other security agencies had overcome the situation and brought back normalcy in all the affected areas.
“The command is currently committed to post violence management efforts and I am appealing to the general public to support the command to ensure success by giving us prompt and relevant information that can facilitate peaceful coexistence in the state as well as expose criminally minded people and rumour peddlers in our midst.
“Like I said in my several earlier media chats that, the command has made arrests during the recent crisis in Kasuwan Magani and Kujama as well as during the last pandemonium caused by rumour peddlers following the murder of HRH the late Agom Adara by some heartless kidnappers respectively,” he said.
Abdurrahman explained that the 22 suspects arrested in connection to Kasuwan Magani incident and additional 23 suspects arrested during the subsequent incidents have been jointly charged to Chief Magistrate court 1 Ibrahim Taiwo Road Kaduna on 24/10/2018 respectively, bringing the total number of suspects charged to court to 45.
“Whereas, fifty-two (52) more suspects arrested were equally arraigned in the same court yesterday 31/10/2018 accordingly. This brings the total number of suspects arrested and prosecuted to ninety-seven (97),” he added.
