Unadu community in Igboeze South LGA of Enugu State has opened up on its case against Senator Ayogu Eze, the All Progressive Congress, APC, guber candidate in the state.
The community had dragged Ayogu before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, claiming that funds meant for road project linking the community was diverted.
DAILY POST reports that the Senator broke his silence on the matter on Thursday.
In a chat with journalists, Chief Harrison Ogara said the petition was in line with the community’s efforts to unravel the mystery surrounding the abandoned Umuida/Ogrute/Unadu/Akpanya/Odoru Road contract Number 6170.
He said the people of the area were worried about the Road contract which cuts across five communities awarded to PW Nig ltd worth N13 billion.
Already the EFCC has already visited the road for on-the-spot inspection and assessment of the road.
Ogara said, “The case is not fresh, the matter is in court. But the angle in court is where the community is claiming damages against the Company, PW Nigeria Ltd for destroying their Eco system, their environment, water reticulation, among others.
“As a community, we don’t have powers to investigate abandoned property so what we did is to file a petition to the EFCC to investigate because we found out that the road was among the projects the Goodluck Jonathan government claimed to have completed.
“So, we want to find out what happened to the N12.8 billion paid for the project. PW claimed they received about N6 bn. What happened to the balance; who cornered it? Also, the job done by PW is nowhere near what they claimed to have received.”
